Siding

Siding is a
water system too.

Same principle as your roof: what is behind it decides whether it works. Siding is not decoration, it is the second half of your home's envelope.

Free inspection, always

Most people think about siding as a look. It is a water management system that happens to be the thing you see. Wind drives rain sideways onto your walls, and siding is not watertight, it is a rain screen. What keeps water out of your sheathing is the house wrap behind it and the flashing at every window, door, and transition. Get those wrong and you can hang beautiful siding on a wall that is quietly rotting.

What actually matters

House wrap and flashing

The weather barrier behind the siding and the flashing at every window head, door, and transition. This is what keeps your sheathing dry. It is also completely invisible once the siding is on, which is exactly why it gets rushed.

Proper fastening

Vinyl siding has to hang, not be pinned. It expands and contracts with temperature across its whole length. Nail it tight and it buckles in July. That wavy siding you see on houses around town is somebody who nailed it home.

Trim and transitions

Corners, J-channel, window and door surrounds, and the transition where siding meets the roofline. The detail work is what separates a professional job from a flip.

The roofline connection

We roof. That means the siding-to-roof transition, step flashing up a wall, and the fascia and trim all get handled by people who understand both sides of that intersection. It is a common leak point precisely because it is usually two different trades pointing at each other.

Questions

Siding, answered straight.

Do you replace siding after storm damage?

Yes, and hail and wind damage to siding is commonly part of the same insurance claim as your roof. If a storm hit your roof, your siding took the same hit and it is worth having both looked at.

Vinyl or board and batten?

Vinyl is the durable, low-maintenance, cost-effective default and modern vinyl looks nothing like the 1990s stuff. Board and batten is a look, often used on gables or an accent wall. Plenty of homes use both.

Can you side just one wall or section?

Yes, though matching aged siding exactly is not always possible since color fades over the years. We will tell you honestly whether a section repair will look right or stand out.

How long does siding take?

Most homes run a few days depending on size and how much trim and detail work is involved. We will give you the real number after we look at it.

Do you do the trim and fascia too?

Yes. Siding, trim, fascia, soffit, and gutters are one envelope and we would rather own the whole thing than hand off the transitions.
