Trim & Fascia

Rotted fascia is
a symptom.

Wood does not rot for no reason. If your fascia is soft, water is getting somewhere it should not, and replacing the board without finding out why just buys you a few years.

Free inspection, always

Fascia is the board your gutters hang on. Soffit is the underside of your overhang, and it is how your attic breathes. Both take the abuse when something above them fails, which is why rotted fascia is almost always a message rather than a problem: no gutter apron, a gutter that overflowed for years, a missing drip edge, or an ice dam that backed water into the eave. We fix the wood and the reason the wood went bad.

Fascia, soffit, and why they matter

Fascia

The horizontal board along your roof edge that carries your gutters. When it goes soft, the gutter hangers have nothing to hold and the gutter starts pulling away. Rehanging gutters on rotted fascia is a repair that fails on schedule.

Soffit

The vented underside of your overhang. It is your attic's intake air. Blocked or missing soffit vents and your attic cannot breathe, which cooks your shingles from below and helps build ice dams in the winter. A lot of ventilation problems get blamed on the ridge when the intake is the real issue.

Aluminum wrapping

We wrap fascia and trim in aluminum so it stops being a maintenance item. No painting every few years, no rot cycle. Done with proper miters and clean lines instead of the lumpy hack job you see on a lot of houses.

Finding the cause

Any of ours that goes soft, we find out why first. Usually it is a missing gutter apron or drip edge letting water wick behind the gutter. Replace the board without fixing that and you will be doing it again.

Questions

Trim & Fascia, answered straight.

Why is my fascia rotting?

Water is getting behind your gutter, and that is nearly always a missing gutter apron or drip edge, a gutter that overflows, or ice damming at the eaves. The rot is the symptom. We find the cause.

Can you just wrap over rotted wood?

No, and people ask because somebody offered. Wrapping aluminum over soft wood hides the rot and keeps it wet. The bad wood comes out, then it gets wrapped.

Does soffit really matter?

More than people think. Soffit vents are your attic's intake. Without intake, your ridge vent has nothing to pull, the attic bakes, your shingles age early from underneath, and you get ice dams in winter.

Will wrapped fascia need painting?

No. That is the point. Aluminum wrapping ends the paint and rot cycle.

Do you do this with a roof or gutter job?

Yes, and that is the ideal time. The fascia is exposed, the gutters are down, and the drip edge and apron are already being handled. Doing it all at once is cheaper and it fixes the cause instead of the symptom.
